Parkour: Punk rock or Hip Hop?
August 11th, 2010

Parkour is an interesting endeavor. Climbing things. Jumping over things. Challenging your physical limits. It is an urban phenomenon mostly, but can be done out in the middle of nowhere. In fact some of the coolest stuff I have ever seen was footage from a national park with boulders and trees as obstacles.
But its mostly urban.
So in terms of music would parkour be more hip hop or punk rock? Both styles are from the city. I have my answer.

Pomparkour, or parkour with ladders, claims to hail from the French firemen, or pompier
August 4th, 2010

Pomparkour, or parkour with ladders, claims to hail from the French firemen, or pompier, of the late 1800s, who carried ladders with hooks that “could be used on windows and ledges to reach every floor of the building they were scaling.” It may actually be a viral advertisement for some sort of New Zealand energy drink, but I am OK with that: even as a swill-shilling stunt, it makes for fascinating viewing. (And looks dangerous!)
Parkour is more than sport, it’s a lifestyle

Instead of barbells and running machines, the former warehouse on Worrall Street, Salford, boasts a bewildering array of sledgehammers, tractor tyres and rope swings.

At first blush, the difference between winning a 62-mile race (100K) and a 100-mile race seems huge–a 38-mile difference, in fact. But the reality is that anything longer than the traditional marathon length of 26.2 miles is considered an ultramarathon, and to most people, even the thought of attempting such a long run borders on insanity.
Reasons why the popularity of parkour is spreading
July 28th, 2010

Parkour is a new sport that is all about overcoming obstacles in your path using only the human body. This sport is a non-competitive discipline that focuses heavily on overcoming your own obstacles, whether they are physical or mental. Parkour’s birthplace is thought to be in the small town of Lisses, France. From this small town, the popularity of Parkour has exploded and is now practiced all over the world. Traceurs (ones who practice Parkour) connect through a variety of websites such as americanparkour.com and urbanfreeflow.com. Parkour is now spreading to become one of the most popular sports in the world, maybe it will even become as popular as skateboarding.

Movie being shot in Cleveland : FREE RUNNER
July 26th, 2010

Ostergard says “Free Runner” is about seven friends who stage free-running races with the winner taking the small pot of money. But the stakes get raised when they end up being fitted with explosive collars. The winner gets $1 million, but the losers never compete again.
